NON-SLIP FLOOR TREATMENT

DISABILITY EVALUATIONS AND FALL PREVENTION SOLUTIONS

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Measurabilities Home Safety provides professional residential and commercial non-slip treatments for floor, tub and shower. We specialize in the application of long lasting, non-slip treatment which when applied to a variety of flooring and tiled surfaces, provides increased friction levels at a molecular level, only noticeable when surfaces are wet.

Our product is environmentally safe and has been developed for use on concrete, quarry tile, Spanish tile, ceramic tile, glazed brick, marble, terrazzo, porcelain/enamel and many other had mineral surfaces. The end result is an increase in the “Coefficient of Friction”, up to 400% when subjected to water, following treatment.

Most importantly, there is no visible change to the floor, tub and shower surface, the increased friction levels occur at a molecular level, the benefit is on the surface. OSHA and ADA recommend .5 or above friction levels to be considered safe. Most surfaces are below this recommended level, and thereby considered to be very unsafe when wet, creating a critically increased chance of slip and fall accidents.

FACTS and STATSSlip and Falls on Slippery Surfaces

  • The Center for Disease Control (CDC) found two thirds of injuries happened in a shower or tub. To reduce the risk of falling, the CDC recommends the addition of non-slip surfaces both in and out of the shower and tub.
  • Falls are one of the leading causes of unintentional injuries in the United States, accounting for approximately 8.9 million visits to the emergency department annually (NSC Injury Facts 2011).
  • Adults 55 and older are more prone to becoming victims of falls, and the resulting injuries can diminish the ability to lead active, independent lives. The number of fall deaths among those 65 and older is four times the number of fall deaths among all other age groups.
  • Many falls are the result of hazards like slippery or wet surfaces.
  • The bathroom is the number one place where falls occur in the home.
  • Slips happen where there is too little friction or traction between the footwear/feet and walking surface. Common causes of slips are wet or oily surfaces, occasional spills and flooring or other walking surfaces that do not have the same degree of traction in all areas
  • CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality report found two thirds of injuries happened in a shower or tub. To reduce the risk, add non-slip surfaces and grab bars both inside and outside the shower or tub

Non-Slip Surface Treatment for Floors, Tub and Shower – FAQ’s

How long will the treatment last?

We guarantee an increased coefficient of friction for 1-2 years in commercial applications and 3-5 years in residential applications, depending upon the traffic pattern and maintenance practices.

Do I have to use a special cleaner once the surface has been treated?

No. However, restaurants must use a degreaser to clean their floor. Otherwise, grease will build up over time, causing the floor to be slippery. In that instance, you would be walking on layers of grease rather than the treated floor.

How long will it take to apply the non-slip treatment?

Treatment application time varies depending on the size of the area(s) being treated. Treatment times can be from 45 minutes or longer if the area is larger.

Will there be an visible changes to the appearance of the floor, tub, shower surface?

There is no visible change in appearance. On a very high gloss ceramic tile or marble floor, you may notice a very slight loss of gloss. We always do a small, inconspicuous test treat area, prior to treating the entire surface, to ensure optimal outcomes.

Will there be any reaction to the skin when treatment is applied to bathtubs?

No, as there is no chemical remaining in the bathtub. This is not a coating or a sealer. Once the treatment product has been applied, it is neutralized. What remains is a quality non-slip surface.

Will bathtubs/showers be harder to clean following treatment?

No, it will be the same. In the case where strips or mats were used, the cleaning will be easier after a non-slip treatment.

Do I have to use a special cleaner after my floor, tub or shower is treated?

No. Whatever you used before your treatment, continue use afterward.
